Citadel Stone supplies natural stone to the British Virgin Islands quarry-direct: pavers, tiles, slabs and pool coping, hand-selected piece by piece and shipped by container or pallet to Road Town — with onward legs to Virgin Gorda, Jost Van Dyke and the outer islands planned into the quote. You approve physical samples before committing, your order is cut and finished to your exact specification, and you deal with one person — Kareem — from first enquiry to the day the stone lands.

The BVI is the sailing world’s capital and one of its most determined rebuilders: a US-dollar territory whose villa hillsides, charter marinas and beach bars came back from 2017 with standards raised rather than lowered. Projects here climb steep green slopes above famous anchorages, and their stone packages carry hillside craft, marine exposure and rebuild-era wisdom in equal parts — this page walks through all three.

The stone BVI projects ask for

White limestone pavers and tiles lead our BVI orders: pale stone keeps terraces barefoot-comfortable through charter-season afternoons, glows against the territory’s deep green hillsides, and photographs the Drake Channel blues the way every villa listing needs.

Ocean Reef shellstone answers the beach-bar-and-boat register with warm fossil texture. Black basalt draws the crisp lines — borders, steps, drive aprons — that make pale fields read designed, and sits naturally beside the territory’s dark rock. And white limestone pool coping finishes villa pools with profiled, drip-grooved edges and the precision weir stones the anchorage-view infinity edge demands.

Steep green islands, imported floors

The Virgins rise steeply from the channel — Tortola’s spine tops out high above Road Town, and the building lots that matter hang off its slopes. The territory’s own rock builds the way island rock usually does: aggregate, fill, retaining mass, the famous sea-smoothed boulders of Virgin Gorda left exactly where nature composed them. What no local industry supplies is calibrated dimension flooring — and the gap is the familiar one imports fill: light heat-shedding tones, factory-flat calibration, low absorption against year-round salt air, finished textures for grip on slopes that see real rain. Local strength in the walls and ground, imported comfort underfoot: the cluster’s standing partnership, at BVI gradients.

Where the territory builds

Tortola carries the working map: Road Town’s commerce, villa neighbourhoods climbing from Cane Garden Bay to Belmont, and the marina economy strung along the southern shore. Virgin Gorda runs the luxury end — the North Sound’s resort renaissance, estates above the Baths’ famous boulders, Spanish Town’s quiet growth. Jost Van Dyke builds small and beloved around its beach-bar economy, and the outer islands — Anegada’s flat coral exception included — add legs that reward the small-island playbook. Charter-fleet infrastructure — bases, docks, provisioning — threads through all of it. Name the island and the bay at enquiry; in this territory the answer changes the freight plan as much as the finish plan.

Any size, any thickness — cut to your project

Standard formats ship fastest, but every dimension is ultimately cut to order: large-format slabs such as 36 x 24 in (90 x 60 cm) and 36 x 36 in (90 x 90 cm), stair treads for hillside flights, wall cladding, sills and coping profiles are all routine requests. Thickness follows application — 2 cm under cover, 3 cm exterior standard, 5 cm and up under vehicles — and with dense limestone at roughly 80 kg per square metre at 3 cm, honest thickness is honest freight on both the ocean leg and the inter-island hop. Every piece is hand-inspected after manufacturing, and project orders ship from a single batch.

Finishes for slopes, spray and charter-season traffic

BVI finish plans run the full wet-and-salt logic: brushed grades and bush-hammered faces on pool surrounds, hillside stairs and every sloped approach, textured surfaces wherever spray reaches, and honed or fine-brushed silk reserved for covered verandas and interiors. Charter-facing properties add duty thinking — surfaces that carry a season of wet swimwear and deck shoes between refreshes. Every texture is produced in-house and photographed on real production stock in our Stone Finishes Gallery; zoning finishes across one order is standard practice.

Pools above the anchorages

The territory’s signature pool looks down on masts: infinity edges composed against the Drake Channel, plunge pools on villa terraces above the bays, decks that photograph with white sails in the background. The stone package follows the cluster’s view-first rules — calm pale decks, clean low edges, weir stones cut to photographed tolerance — with hillside fundamentals underneath: engineered platforms, textured treads between levels, drainage designed for tropical rain on gradients. The whole waterline ships as one drawn family, and spares travel with it, because the pool edge is where charter-season traffic concentrates.

How delivery to Road Town — and the islands — works

Ocean freight lands at Road Town: full containers for resort and estate phases (roughly 24–26 tonnes, on the order of 280–320 square metres at 3 cm), palletized or shared-container space for villa-scale work. The territory runs on US dollars and professional brokerage — we prepare the export documentation and a clear commercial invoice, your BVI broker prices duty and landed cost before the vessel sails, and clean paperwork clears routinely. Then the inter-island legs: Virgin Gorda and Jost Van Dyke by the ferry and freight services, outer islands by arrangement, with crates sized for the receiving end and hillside sites planning their final approach — steep drives, switchbacks, crane or transfer points — before the first leg sails. Escrow protects new clients throughout, releasing on verified arrival at the true destination.

How an order actually runs

The sequence holds at every scale. Samples first: at your door or your villa manager’s within 3 working days, judged wet and dry against the site’s green and glare. Quote and cutting list: every line itemized — stone, freight, insurance, brokerage, island leg — and every hillside special dimensioned before production: treads, wall caps, radius coping. Production and proof: hand inspection, loading photographs before sailing. Arrival and verification: crates against the packing list at the final island, sample-match checks, escrow releasing on confirmation. Absent owners run the remote-owner method with their property managers as standard — half this territory builds that way.

What it costs, honestly

The BVI landed stack itemizes cleanly: stone ex-works, ocean freight to Road Town, insurance, duty and brokerage, island leg where one applies, and the hillside delivery’s equipment line. US-dollar invoicing keeps the arithmetic native for a US-dollar territory. The value ledger reads with rebuild-era clarity here: surfaces that survived 2017 and surfaces that did not taught the territory exactly what replacement cycles cost, and stone’s decade math — purchase price plus sweeping — lands on ears that learned the lesson the hard way.

Care between charters

BVI stone care runs the marine standard: freshwater rinses where spray settles and rain misses, pH-neutral cleaning only, textured surfaces brushed through the wet months, drains cleared before the season, and the salt discipline doubled at docks and dinghy landings. Charter villas add the turnover rhythm — the between-guests reset that keeps decks photograph-ready — and every property holds attic-stock spares, because the nearest replacement unit is a sailing away. Minutes a week, decades of return: the trade the territory’s established villas accepted long ago.

After Irma: the rebuild standard

2017 rewrote the territory’s building law and its instincts: what stood was anchored, massive and drained; what flew was light, lifted and attached. The BVI rebuilt to that lesson, and its landscape standard now assumes the storm — mortar-set terraces that give wind nothing, engineered capped walls, storm-capacity drainage, unit surfaces that repair from same-batch spares after the worst day. We supply to the rebuild philosophy on every order: dense material, honest thickness, spares included, connection details engineered rather than assumed. The territory earned its standards; the least a supplier can do is meet them.

Who we supply in the BVI

Villa owners and their managers get hand-selected stone from a single pallet up, samples first, escrow available, and remote-owner documentation as standard. Contractors get cut-to-specification material arriving crated, labelled, sequenced and sized for the receiving island, with wholesale pricing on volume. Resorts, marinas and developers get single-batch consistency at container scale, finish and slip documentation, and one accountable counterpart: Kareem, kareem@citadelstone.us, backed by a 50-year quarrying and manufacturing operation.

Guides for your BVI project

The supporting library opens this page’s topics at working depth: Road Town and the island legs, step by step; stone for the charter-villa economy; and hillside building in the rebuild era. Twelve newer chapters extend the territory’s shelf, led by pool-and-spa courts above the charter lanes, stone through the villa-management audit and the hurricane-hole seasons and their shore craft. The wider cluster carries the rest — why stone rides out the storms, volcanic-slope fundamentals, stairs down to the water and sailing-coast waterfronts — written on sister islands, applicable verbatim here.

You are a good businessman and I believe a good person. I admire your honesty, this is why I call you a good businessman.

Undoubtedly the price was the reason that we chose Citadel stone, in addition to the fact that you offer a white limestone that is hard to source. Your products are very good value for money by comparison with other companies. You have helped at every stage of the process and have been quick and reliable in your responses. It was a big risk for us to pay everything up front including shipping and not know the quality. You did make me feel that I could trust you and your company however and we are very happy with the tiles. They appear to have been finished to a very high quality of smoothness and I can't wait to see them once they have been laid. We need to see now how easy they are to fit and maintain, yet you also sealed them before shipment so we think that they will be very durable. Our building project has been delayed for a few months now so it may be sometime before we see them laid, but I promise that I will send photos as soon as we have them down. Thank you so much Kareem and your team, you have done a great job. I am hoping that we can pay for, and receive our second shipment in the not too far future, so that we can finish everything off. Wishing you well. Gemma

I appreciate the quality of product and care for the custom order in packaging each crate to minimize breakage as well as the flexibility with the order to help us make the most of shipping. The timely communications are impressive from the beginning and throughout the process. It's reassuring to have gone through one order to know what the process will be like in the future. I am glad to have had some guidance through the importing process and recommendations for shipping partners to assist. It's incredible to think about the journey the stone traveled to get to our site and I'm grateful to have made it to the next stage of the project relatively smoothly and with from what I can tell.

Frequently Asked Questions

If your question is not listed, please email us at kareem@citadelstone.us

How does stone reach islands beyond Tortola?

In two legs. The container clears at Road Town, then material moves onward by barge or landing craft to Virgin Gorda, Jost Van Dyke, Anegada and the smaller cays. That second leg has to be booked around sailing schedules, so we size and weight the crates around what the onward vessel and the receiving dock can actually take.

Yes, and it is much of what we ship here. Charter-season turnover means surfaces take heavy, concentrated use, then sit through the off-season. Owners and managers get wholesale pricing, batch consistency across phased works, and stone sequenced against the packing list so a crew can lay it without sorting through crates.

It shifted the question from appearance to failure mode. Dense stone does not delaminate the way sealed or stamped surfaces do, and individual units can be lifted and relaid after a storm rather than replacing a whole terrace. On these slopes the base build-up and drainage design carry as much weight as the stone itself.

More than a flat site does. Gradients concentrate runoff, so specify a deeper compacted aggregate base, positive falls that move water off fast, and open-graded jointing where the slope steepens. Retaining and terracing details need designing before the stone is ordered, because they change which formats and thicknesses work.

Textured faces wherever water lands or feet turn: brushed grades from a rustic 16 grit to a fine 80, or bush-hammered surfaces whose pocked micro-texture grips best when soaked. Honed and polished belong indoors and on covered terraces. Match the finish to the zone rather than the whole order.

Because you deal with the manufacturer rather than a reseller passing on another company batch. Kareem handles enquiries personally, every piece is hand-inspected after production and again before crating, and crates are packed for the onward island leg rather than just the container. Citadel Stone ships throughout the territory with paperwork prepared for your broker.
