Ocean Reef Shellstone is CitadelStone’s signature shell-rich limestone, hand-selected at our Middle East quarry and finished with a 60-grit brush. Each piece is drawn from the same beds our team has worked for 50 years, and buying quarry-direct removes the importer and distributor margins that sit between the block and your project.
This stone formed on an ancient seabed, and it shows: densely packed shell fragments, coral traces, and marine fossils run through the full body of the stone, not just across its face. The tone sits between ivory and soft sand, and small natural voids give the surface its reef-like character โ every tile and paver carries a different arrangement of shells, so a finished deck reads unmistakably as natural stone. A 60-grit abrasive brush softens the shell edges into a lightly textured, low-sheen surface that is comfortable barefoot yet keeps a tactile grip โ the balance that makes brushed shellstone a favorite around water. If you prefer a smoother, more formal face in the same stone, ask about our polished finish or other grit levels.
This is an outdoor-first stone. Its light tone reflects sunlight rather than storing it, so the surface stays noticeably cooler underfoot than dense dark paving โ the reason shellstone is a classic choice around pools in hot climates.
Ask us about matching bullnose steps and coping pieces cut from the same stone so edges, treads, and deck read as one material.
Shell-rich limestone is naturally more porous than dense stone like basalt โ that open structure is part of why it stays cool and grips underfoot, and it is also why sealing matters. Seal on installation with a breathable penetrating sealer, reseal periodically, and keep acidic cleaners (vinegar, citrus, harsh pool chemicals splashed and left) off the surface, wiping spills promptly. For regions with hard freezes, ask us to confirm suitability and detailing for your site before ordering; drainage, bedding, and sealing determine how any porous stone winters. If your project requires documented figures, request the current batch’s ASTM C97 (absorption) and C170 (compressive) test data โ we quote batch results rather than generic numbers.
Supplied as pavers and tiles with custom dimensions cut to order at the quarry โ specify your size, thickness, and finish and we quote lead time per order. Ocean Reef Shellstone ships by the pallet or container with direct-from-quarry pricing and delivery to any US state or worldwide port. New to CitadelStone? Request a sample of this exact 60-grit finish first โ shell density, voids, and tone vary naturally from piece to piece, and a sample is the honest way to judge them before a full order.
