What makes Bianco Velo different from other white cobblestones?

It is the palest, brightest stone we cut: a pearl-white ground with a soft ivory veil. Bianco Seta, our other white, is warmer and ivory-toned. Choose Velo where you want the strongest white, such as paths, borders, and contrast designs, and compare free samples of both outdoors.

Will bright white cobblestones cause glare?

Smooth white stone can glare in strong sun. Textured finishes, such as a coarse brush or bush-hammering, break up the surface so it scatters light instead of reflecting it, and they add grip. Keep smoother finishes like honed for shaded courtyards and covered areas, where glare is not an issue.

Can Bianco Velo cobblestones be used on driveways and in cold climates?

Bianco Velo comes from a newly commissioned quarry, so we confirm driveway use and hard-freeze suitability project by project against the current batch's test results, instead of making a general claim. Send us the use, traffic, and location. Paths, borders, and courtyards in mild climates are standard uses.

Why do pale cobblestones need special setting materials?

Because very pale stone can absorb color from what sits beneath it. Grey cement, dark mortar, or a staining bedding sand can leave shadows that no cleaning removes. Use white cement-based mortar or a non-staining bedding material, and choose a joint sand in a light shade that blends with the stone.

What causes orange marks on white paving, and how do I avoid them?

Usually iron. Sprinklers fed by iron-rich well water leave orange stains as the water dries, and steel furniture feet or planters can leave rust rings. Aim sprinkler heads away from the stone or treat the water, use plastic glides under metal legs, and remove marks with a rust remover made for natural stone.

How many cobblestones do I need for a garden path?

At the standard 8″ × 4″ size, plan about 4.5 cobblestones per square foot, laid tight. A 3-foot-wide garden path therefore needs roughly 13 to 14 cobblestones per running foot, before joints. Add 5–10% for cuts and breakage, or use our stone calculators for the exact figure.

Installation Information

Bedding: full-bed sand and cement mix or a flexible adhesive appropriate to the substrate.
Joints: from 3 mm for sawn tiles; wider for split-face setts and cobbles.
Sealing: a quality impregnating sealer is recommended for limestone and shellstone; basalt and granite typically need none.
Cutting: wet saw with a diamond blade.

Bianco Velo is the palest, brightest limestone we cut: a pearl-white ground with a soft veil of ivory. As cobblestones, it brings that brightness to garden paths, borders, courtyards, and entrances. Each standard cobblestone is 8″ × 4″ × 4″ (20 × 10 × 10 cm). Different sizes and finishes are made to order.

Choosing a Finish

Bianco Velo is supplied brushed (16 to 80 grit, finer to order), sawn, honed, and bush-hammered. Other finishes are confirmed with your quote, and close-up photos of each are on our stone finishes page. In full sun, choose a textured finish. In shade, a smoother one keeps the white crisp and clean-looking.

Black and White

The strongest design partner for Bianco Velo is black basalt. Lay Velo as the field with a border of Nero Stellato black basalt cobblestones or black basalt curbing. Or reverse it, with a white edge around a dark driveway.

Care

Clean with a pH-neutral stone cleaner and keep acids off the stone. Seal with a breathable impregnating sealer after installation, and renew it periodically. Use only white, non-staining setting materials (see the FAQ below).

The stone comes from a single, newly commissioned quarry, with blocks hand-selected for whiteness, and is sent by pallet or container to any US address or international port.
