There is a reason limestone conversations go differently in Barbados than almost anywhere else in the Caribbean. This island is a limestone island – a coral cap lifted out of the Atlantic, quarried commercially for three centuries, and built into the great houses, churches and boundary walls that define its older landscape. A Barbadian client looking at a pale limestone terrace is not being introduced to an unfamiliar material.
