Honed or brushed — how do I choose?

By what you want the stone to do. Honed shows the veining at its sharpest and flashes the silver — the gallery grade for composed interiors. Brushed trades a little crispness for texture: gentle grip, everyday forgiveness, and full outdoor confidence. Many projects run honed inside and brushed on the terrace.

Does the silver still show in the brushed finish?

Yes — it changes voice, not presence. The fine texture scatters light instead of returning it in one clean flash, so the silver threads read as a soft shimmer moving across the surface as you walk. Quieter than the honed grade's sparkle, and many prefer exactly that gentler register outdoors.

Is it suitable for patios and outdoor paths?

That's its main job. The 80-grit texture gives sound footing for level outdoor traffic — patios, terraces, garden paths, covered outdoor rooms — and the pale ground stays comfortable underfoot through summer sun. For steep slopes and heavy splash zones, coarser grits serve harder; we cut them to order in this stone.

Does it hide everyday wear?

Better than any smooth face can. Texture breaks up the small scuffs, chair-drags, and traffic lines that a honed floor displays, so the surface stays presentable with less ceremony — the reason this is the grade for busy halls, family kitchens, and terraces that actually get used rather than admired.

What care does it need outdoors?

Limestone's short list: pH-neutral cleaner, no acids ever, and a breathable impregnating sealer renewed periodically — sooner in exposed areas. One rule for the brown veins, which are iron-bearing: never let water stand permanently on unsealed stone. Lay to a fall, keep the sealer current, and the veining stays color.

Should the tiles all look the same?

No — and be suspicious of any natural stone that does. The vein weight, the brown-to-silver balance, and the ground tone all drift through the quarry bed, so every crate carries genuine variety. Dry-lay a section, draw from several crates as you fix, and the variation settles into one flowing floor.

Installation Information

Bedding: full-bed sand and cement mix or a flexible adhesive appropriate to the substrate.
Joints: from 3 mm for sawn tiles; wider for split-face setts and cobbles.
Sealing: a quality impregnating sealer is recommended for limestone and shellstone; basalt and granite typically need none.
Cutting: wet saw with a diamond blade.

Crema Argento — Silver-Veined Cream Limestone, Brushed 80 Grit

Every stone in our named line has a display grade and a working grade. For Crema Argento — the cream limestone whose brown veining carries genuine silver threads — this is the working grade: a fine 80-grit brush that turns the face into a lightly textured, low-sheen matte with a gentle grip, ready for terraces, paths, kitchens, and the ordinary traffic of a lived-in home.

The Same Stone, Speaking Softer

The material is identical to the honed grade: cream-ivory ground, brown-led veining, the cooler grey threads that give the stone its name. What changes is the light. Texture scatters it, so instead of the honed grade’s clean metallic flash, the silver here reads as a soft shimmer that moves across the surface as you do — the same voice, lowered. Gentler, more weathered-in, and to many eyes better suited to open air, where stone should look settled rather than staged.

Built for Days, Not Display

The practical case for this grade is forgiveness. A textured matte hides what a smooth face announces: the chair-drag, the dropped key, the traffic line by the door. It takes bare feet kindly, holds shoes surely on level ground, and — being pale — hands summer sunlight back instead of banking it, so a July terrace stays comfortable where dark paving would punish. This is the grade you don’t tiptoe on.

Grip is sound for normal level foot traffic. For steep slopes and heavy splash zones, coarser textures serve harder — and we cut coarser grits to order in this stone; tell us the gradient and we’ll brush to it. For interiors that want the veining at maximum crispness and the silver at full flash, the Honed grade is the other half of this pair: many projects run honed inside and brushed from the door outward, one stone reading as one home.

The Cream Family, Briefly

Royal Cream holds the calm ivory field; Bianco Velo is the palest, veiled not veined; Ambra Reale runs golden with russet drawing; Crema Aurora is the earthy veined cream, brown with soft grey. Crema Argento completes the set as the silver-lit one — the veined cream whose accent is light itself, at home with wood, bronze, and warm greys.

Care Outdoors

Three habits cover everything. Clean with pH-neutral stone products only — no vinegar, no citrus, no acid patio treatments, ever. Renew the breathable impregnating sealer periodically, sooner in exposed areas. And respect the iron rule that travels with every brown-veined limestone we cut: standing water on unsealed stone is the only condition that deepens iron over the years, so lay to a fall, let joints drain, and the drawing stays exactly the color it arrived.
