Where the surface meets weather, the same rules as every bond apply: bedding that drains, joints filled to the shoulder, and a finish coarse enough for the wet months. The pattern’s tolerance is not an excuse to skip the basics; it is the margin that makes the basics sufficient. Formats: Almost Everything Works

What Running Bond Costs to Cut
Running bond is the cheapest pattern to cut, and that is a large part of why it became the default. On a rectangular terrace laid parallel to the longest wall, waste is about as low as paving gets.

A running bond field fails in one of two ways, and both are set out before the first unit lands. Either the continuous joints run with the traffic and the field slowly creeps, or the offset drifts because nobody strung a line and the half-bond became a two-thirds bond by the far wall. Neither is a material problem.
- Where vehicles run, turn the continuous joints across the direction of travel
- String a line every fifth course and measure the offset, do not eyeball it
- Lay from the most visible edge outward so any accumulated error lands out of sight
- Keep a true half-bond, since a random offset reads as a mistake rather than a choice
