How to measure your pool perimeter
For a rectangular pool, add both lengths and both widths. For freeform or kidney pools, run a flexible tape or string along the waterline edge and measure the string. Where the coping meets steps, spas or raised walls, measure those runs separately and add them — then let the waste allowance absorb the corner and radius cuts.
Choosing coping
Width is a design and safety choice: 12 in is the everyday standard, while wider profiles read more architectural and give bathers a deeper grip edge. Large-format 36 in and 48 in lengths mean fewer joints around the waterline. Look for a drip groove cut under the overhang — it stops runoff from streaking the pool’s vertical face.
